HCI Attends British Transplant Games to Celebrate Sheffield's Kidney Transplant Community
HCI was proud to attend the 2026 British Transplant Games, joining Sheffield City Council in celebrating an event that brought together transplant recipients, living donors, families, and NHS staff from across the country.
HCI's presence at the Games reflects its ongoing work with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where CONNECTPlus is helping to support patients who have received kidney transplants, as well as the donors and their families.
Our CEO, Richard Wyatt-Haines, attended the event at the invitation of Veronica Lennon, the Renal Transplant Matron, who has been instrumental in driving the initiative forward. Reflecting on the visit, Richard said:
"It was an honour to be there. This was an incredible event, and an incredible group of people - staff, patients and their families. You really do feel humbled by the people who've had a transplant and those who have donated. What we do is a small piece of the jigsaw, but from speaking to patients, it's clear how important and valued that piece is."
The event also highlighted the vital role of the Sheffield Area Kidney Association https://www.saka.org.uk/, led by David Marshall, whose team supports patients and families across the city. HCI extends its thanks to David and his colleagues for the difference they continue to make.

HCI's CONNECTPlus platform supports patient education, engagement, and empowerment across NHS services, including the transplant care pathways at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In Sheffield, we are providing highly bespoke education, digital pathways of care, and symptom tracking for patients receiving kidneys and live donors.
We are about to embark on a programme to do the same for people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and those on dialysis. This will deliver an incredibly comprehensive programme of care and support for all patients and their families at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, reducing anxiety, enabling them to better self-manage, and reducing the pressures on the nursing and clinical team at the hospital.
